Large and impressive collection. It’s not only about the gold, but also have lots of pre Hispanic history telling tons of stories about indigenous people living there. We used audio guides in English for my husband and in Spanish for me, that is 8.000 pesos per person additionally to the tickets price and they asked for 20 usd deposit that they paid back in full upon returning the equipment. Spent there about 3 hours and were very impressed. Highly recommended!

The Gold Museum (locally known as El Museo del Oro) is one of Colombia's most significant cultural landmarks, dedicated to preserving the rich history of pre-Hispanic societies. Located in the historic heart of the city near Santander Park, this world-renowned institution houses the globe's largest collection of pre-Columbian gold artifacts, offering an immersive journey into the metallurgy, cosmosvision, and daily life of indigenous cultures before European contact. The Collection: It features tens of thousands of extraordinarily preserved gold pieces, complemented by ancient pottery, stone artifacts, textiles, and sacred objects from diverse cultures such as the Muisca, Calima, Quimbaya, Zenú, and Tierradentro. The Offering Room (El Sanctuario): A highlight of the museum is a specialized, immersive room that replicates the atmosphere of a sacred indigenous offering ceremony. Through a carefully choreographed display of light and sound, visitors experience the symbolic depth of the ritual offerings made to lakes and sacred spaces. The Muisca Raft: Among its most famous treasures is the intricate Balsa Muisca (Muisca Raft), a solid-gold miniature sculpture depicting the ritual ceremony that inspired the famous legend of El Dorado.

One of the best museums in the country, a must go in Bogotá. They have permanent and temporary exposition. The entrance ticket is cheap. The museus has all the history of the gold and its aspects in the old and new society. It shows how and why it has values for the indigenous tribes. The souvenir shop is really interesting and the also gave a small coffe place in the lower floors.

Excellent and well done museum that does both a good job of talking about gold as well as Colombia in general. It's a stylish museum with good guides and well presented exhibits. It is centrally located and there are lots of things to do nearby. I was impressed by the variety of exhibits.

This was a great place to visit. The relics were amazing. I was surprised by the attention to detail and and how they could do such intricate work so long ago with adequate tools. The fee is minimal. If you have a chance to go, don't miss it. It is extraordinary.
